| Rackets
Make sure that you have enough rackets (minimum of four) to last
you for the whole trip plus spare sets of strings. On clay you will
need more than you think. Know your preferred tension in pounds
and in kilos.
Training
Ensure that you bring your training programme to the tournaments.
The Captain will coordinate training.
Skipping Rope
Bring a skipping rope.
Shoes
Take enough pairs of tennis shoes. Find out what surfaces you will
be playing on and take the appropriate shoes.
Alarm Clock
Pack an alarm clock. It is essential to be on time when travelling
as a group.
Luggage
Always take the minimum amount of luggage and label each piece clearly
inside and out. Some low-cost airlines have strict weight limitations
and charge for excess baggage.
Hand Luggage
Always carry essential items in your hand luggage including one
kit to play in plus shoes.
Rules
Please read and carry a copy of the ITF rules which can be found
at www.itftennis.com/abouttheitf/rulesregs/ Please ensure that you
are aware of all rules and regulations stated in the terms and conditions
that will affect you on this trip.
Tennis Clothing
When travelling you will be expected to look professional. Indoor
tennis shoes should be clean.
Matches
Check in for your match when the match preceding yours is going
on court. Your Captain should know where you are at all times. Always
change after a days play. Always contact the Captain after each
match. Always ensure that the tournament director / referee know
where you are staying.
Accommodation
You must pay for extras incurred on your hotel bill. Remember that
phone calls made from hotel rooms are always more expensive than
public phones. Check the tap water is safe to drink. When staying
in private housing please be respectful and keep rooms clean and
tidy. Take a small gift for your host.
Pocket Money
Please take a small amount of pocket money for incidentals including
snacks and stringing.
Diet
Eat sensibly! Your food and drink will directly affect your performance.
Inform your Captain before your trip if you have any special dietary
needs. Players are expected to eat foods provided by the tournament
only. Should there be any reason why they cannot eat the set meals
e.g. allergies, then the Captain will try to make an alternative
arrangement. Players must learn to be adaptable. Players should
not bring junk food (sweets and crisps) on the trip. Only healthy
snacks should be brought.
Security
Keep a list of important documents, Visa numbers, traveller’s
cheques reference numbers etc so that if they are mislaid you can
easily cancel them / report them stolen.
Passport
Check before departure that you have a valid passport (which does
not expire within the next 6 months) essential vaccinations and
visas.
Laundry
For longer trips it is advisable to carry Travel Wash and keep up
with the washing. Opportunities to visit laundrettes can be costly
in certain countries. Captains will help where possible, but it
is the player’s responsibility to inform the Captain in advance
(2 days) when washing facility is required. The cost of laundry
is to be met by the player.
Rooms
Boys are not allowed in girl’s rooms and vice versa.
Punctuality
Players must be punctual at all times and be aware of the importance
of this when competing abroad.
Travelling
Learn as much about the country that you are visiting before your
trip begins.
Study
If applicable, players must take homework with them on tour. There
will be plenty of time to keep up to date with your studies.
The last thing to remember is that you are an aspiring professional
tennis player so try to act like one at all times, especially when
you are representing your country. |
